Graduated in architecture in 1980 from VRCE Nagpur, joined National Institute of Design in 1981 for a 2-year faculty development programme. His strength lies in designing in harmony with nature and blends his projects with the natural topographic profile. His philosophy lies in conserving the natural setting as far as possible. Similarly, he has developed skills to use local materials to the furthest extents to make his projects cost-effective and generate local employment and skills. This goes along within establishing a distinct characteristic of vernacular architecture. He has done considerable work for institutes, as a consultant for architectural and interior works, with detailed custom-made furniture systems.

Though our world overflows with images, I believe that photography holds the possibility of changing mindsets, slow and subtle, one person at a time. The primary intention of my personal photography work lies in portraying quality of urban life. I appreciate art and architecture but feel a strong connection to the environment as well. Most of my work lies at the intersection of these aspects. Teaching is a joy and gives me an opportunity to share my knowledge and expand on my personal practise.

firstname.lastname@example.org Associate Professor and Research Coordinator Area of Expertise: Architecture Journalism, Art and Graphics, History and Criticism Though trained as an architect and a researcher, Dr Shaji K. Panicker defines himself primarily as a committed teacher and a continuing student of architecture. His scholastic training may be broadly categorized under the heading of architectural history and theory. While Shaji’s research initially explored non-Western reactions to the International Style and Modernism, in his Doctoral work Shaji provides an account of the manner in which history, context, agency and agents, come together at a point in time as a complex set of historically constituted social relations, to authorize and sustain particular viewpoints about – with respect to (but not confined to) his particular interest – contemporary Indian architecture. He is currently engaged, with his former colleagues from Adelaide University, in a critical study that examines the role of Indian construction labor and other technical and professional experts and agencies, in the initial phases of rapid modernization and urban development in the UAE. Before joining the School of Design and Architecture at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai, Shaji taught at the prestigious College of Architecture, R.V. College of Engineering, in Bangalore, and briefly at the Department of Architectural Engineering, United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, UAE. Apart from teaching and writing research papers, Shaji occasionally exits into a relatively slow-paced and self-reflective realm of artistic exploration (paintings and sculpture) to explore/exploit, via different media, his personal, philosophical, and poetic propositions.
